GREEN BAY, Wis. (WGBW) – Assitant Green Bay fire chief, Eric Jeltima says massive paper rolls deep inside the Green Bay Converting warehouse have been smouldering for days. Jeltima says the collapsed roof has created pockets making it difficult for crews to get water to the hot spots. Crews are expected to be battling the blaze for at least another two day, he said.

Firefighters from multiple agencies have been battling a blaze at Green Bay Converting since Monday morning. In a joint press conference on Wednesday, officials say it could be another week to two weeks to get the fire completely under control and investigated. People are asked to avoid the area, specifically Larsen, Century and Elgin streets, to allow fire crews to do their work. Lt. Shauna Walesh, with the Green Bay Metro Fire department said earlier in the week a passerby drove over one of the fire hoses crews were using to try to fight the fire, stopping the flow of water.

Crews were called to the business on Larsen Road around 7:45 AM where heavy black smoke was coming from the roof of one of the buildings. High winds and equipment freezing on site are hampering efforts to get the fire under control and generating a lot of smoke. Emergency crews are asking people not to call 911 if you see this smoke in the area.

Lt. Shauna Walesh with the Green Bay Metro Fire Department says no one was hurt as of 10 o’clock Monday morning. Green Bay Water officials say people who live west of Highway I-41 have lower than normal water pressure due to the massive amount of water being used to fight the fire.
